01 / ABOUT US

The territory comes first.

An imagined Mediterranean agricultural landscape with fields, olive trees and hills.

A local perspective.
A long-term vision.

Understanding Catalonia is our starting point.

Bioenergia Catalunya is a renewable energy project developer with a primary focus on biomethane. Our distinctive strength is our knowledge of Catalonia’s territorial, social and administrative context.

01

Territory

Knowledge of the local environment and Catalonia’s agricultural and industrial landscape.

02

Society

An understanding of local stakeholders, needs and relationships.

03

Public administration

Knowledge of the administrative context in which projects are developed.

02 / BIOMETHANE

From organic matter
to renewable gas.

A way to put organic resources to use and produce energy.

  1. 01

    Organic resources

Organic waste and by-products can provide feedstock for biogas production.

  2. 02

    Anaerobic digestion

In the absence of oxygen, microorganisms break down organic matter and generate biogas.

  3. 03

    Biomethane production

Upgrading biogas produces biomethane, which can replace fossil natural gas.

Environmental performance depends on the feedstock, the process and emissions control throughout the life cycle.

Are biogas and biomethane the same?

No. Biogas is a mixture of gases including methane and carbon dioxide. Upgrading increases the methane content to produce biomethane.

What environmental factors matter?

The use of organic resources and displacement of fossil gas need to be assessed alongside transport, process energy use and potential methane leakage.

What happens to the remaining organic matter?

The process also produces digestate. Its potential agricultural use requires appropriate management and compliance with applicable requirements.
